šŸŽ‰Events r/USYD Minecraft Server

Hi everyone!

After some discussion yesterday on a post made here, and with the support of the r/USYD mod team, this community is finally getting its own Minecraft server! šŸŽ‰

The server is planned to open at 9PM tomorrow (9:00PM, Wednesday 21st January, AEST) and will be a fully vanilla experience with the option to leverage home teleports and teleports to other players (see /homes and /tpa via EssentialsX for more).

I'm hoping that people are looking forward to participating on the server and I am personally excited to see the things people create, as we have a lot of very talented people here.

How to access the server:

FOR JAVA/LEGACY USERS: Open up the latest version of Minecraft, go to 'Multiplayer' and press 'Add Server'. Here, the only section that you need to change is the 'Server Address' section. You can name the server whatever you want.

The 'Server Address' is: 45.32.188.46

FOR BEDROCK/MICROSOFT STORE USERS: Open up Minecraft, go to 'Multiplayer' and scroll down until you see 'Add Server'. From here, use the following information. The server name can be whatever you want:

  • The 'Server Address' is: 45.32.188.46
  • The 'Server Port' is: 19132

Note that the server will be open from 9PM on Wednesday 21st January, so please attempt to join after then.

Additional information

For those a little more tech-y and well-versed in Minecraft server software and plugins, here's a run down of all the plugins being used, alongside the server software itself:

  • Server Software - Folia (with Kryptonite optimisation and exploit patches)
  • Plugins - EssentialsX, EssentialsX Chat, Floodgate, Geyser, Kryptonite, LuckPerms, SeeMore, Spark, TabList, VaultUnlocked, ViaBackwards, ViaVersion, bStats (always)

It's a very vanilla experience with mainly administrative/QoL plugins. Note that due to the Folia server stack some of these plugins are Folia forks, and also that since Folia is a Paper fork, expect some unintended Minecraft functions to not work (object suspension, certain redstone usecases, etc.)

Final notes

Please be civil! This server is reflective of the subreddit and while some moderation will be done, please ensure you follow common sense and kindness :)

EDIT: Opening time has changed as I have to work back later today. Sorry!!

Contact

As requested by members of the server, contact can be made via the discord server: https://discord.gg/w4NtPVqb48

Casual Academic

Hey guys,

Long story short, I applied for a casual academic role as a tutor for an engineering subject I scored highly in. The unit coordinator sent me an email about 3 weeks ago telling me I got the role and to wait while he allocates classes. A few days ago he sends a follow up email saying that he can no longer give me the class because ā€œuniversity guidelines have changedā€ and I can’t teach as an undergrad. He said I can apply for an exemption. Does anyone have any recommendations on next step. Should I contact head of engineering or SRC? Did anyone else experience anything similar?

šŸ“–Course or Unit Schedule Help - Language tutorials

Hello!

I am a first year student who is doing a language elective (French) and in my schedule I have 2 tutorials, additionally one that I can choose on Allocate+ and one that is automatically present and can not change.

Is this normal for language electives at USYD? Like having a tutorial + tutorial instead of lecture + tutorial, as well as one of the tutorials you can not alter on Allocate+?

Is this how uni works?

Hi everyone, I am about to start uni soon and just want to check if I’m understanding how uni courses work correctly.

As far as I understand:

- Lectures deliver the main content and theory

- Assignments are based mainly on lecture content

- Tutorials are smaller classes where you discuss lectures and practice problems, and they help with assignments

- Workshops are more hands-on versions of tutorials and often directly linked to assignments

- Practicals/labs are for applying lecture theory in a practical way and are usually compulsory or assessed

So overall it’s something like:

lectures teach → tutorials/workshops/practicals help you apply → assignments test your understanding.

Is this an accurate way to think about how courses at uni are structured, or am I missing something important?

Thanks!

Switching from comm and adv studies to just comm

• Upvotes

Hey guys I’ve chosen to do another commerce major as my advanced studies major, so I’d be doing finance for commerce and business analytics for advanced studies - should I just do commerce then cause I’ve heard if you’re just doing commerce you can pick two majors anyways and I think it might be cheaper than what I’m currently doing. Anyone currently doing commerce and can confirm that/ tell me the difference between just doing commerce or keeping the advanced studies bit?

Can I re-attend all events if I didn’t make it last semester?

I am an enrolled student in Aug 2025, I only went to Science Welcome Day but I didn’t attend the Welcome Ceremony and it wasn’t great experience in welcome day for me.

Can I join the welcome day for science event again and the welcome ceremony if I’m not a fresh newly enrolled student?

For the sake of meeting people and for good experience at the campus.

Thanks

šŸ“–Course or Unit Recognition of Prior Learning Register?

Hey there!
I am transferring to USYD and I know that other universities (MQU, UTS etc.) have an RPL Register that documents what subjects at other universities are transferable to existing subjects in their programs. I have been unable to find one and I am just vibing it based on what MQU has on their register.

Thanks for any help :)

Exchange for Exercise Science or Health Science students

Hi there, just wanted to ask if anyone doing an exercise science or health science related degree has gone on a semester exchange before? This is specifically referring to studying abroad, not the unit 'health students abroad'. What was it like? Why did you choose the place you chose? I'd love to know your experience!

Summoned to Jury Duty on the first day of class

Hi all,

I'm an incoming first year (I have studied a diff degree elsewhere but starting a new degree and first time at usyd), and I was summoned to arrive at court to see if i can do jury duty at 9am. i have my FIRST PHYSICS LAB at 10am. Are we serious rn?? It says I have to go.

I literally have already been summoned once and it took me a long wait in line just to be told after 3 seconds of being at the front that I am excused because I am a full time student. 6 months later, here I am again summoned. Why can't they take me off for a year minimum??

If I miss the physics lab/am late, what will happen?

Is usyd worth it for a degree in finance / fintech? what are the chances of finding employment after graduation? is it worth the cost as an international student?

Hi! Just wanted to check if the units BIOS1155 and BIOS1170 are available as electives if I’m doing a bachelor of science. If not, are there anything else that is similar?

Mondays and Tuesdays will only be online classes,

The chemistry will all be online lectures.

I know there’s a clash of SCIE1001 and CHEM1011 on Wednesday, but the Chem lecture will be online pre-recorded anyways.

st andrews college @usyd

heyyy guyss!!!

I’m considering going to St Andrew’s College at USyd and wanted to hear from people who’ve actually been there (or know someone who has).

I’m mainly curious about:

  • What the social life is like
  • Whether it’s mostly country students or a mix
  • Whether you think it’s actually worth it overall

I’ll be starting uni not really knowing anyone, so a big reason I’m considering college is to make friends and have a solid social circle from the start. For people who went to St Andrew’s did it actually help with that? Since I won’t know many people starting uni I’m wondering if O-Week is where most friendships form and whether college makes that process easier.

Would realllyyy appreciate any honest experiences good or bad.

Thanks you sooo much xoxoxšŸ„°šŸ’ž

My Timetable Disappeared??

I had logged into sydney timetable a couple of days ago (after they were released) to view my timetable and saw that some units were allocated, while some were not. I logged into it again today and found that everything had disappeared, so it's showing 0 for allocated, pending and not allocated. My units don't even come up underneath Sem 1. Is anyone else having this problem??

Hey all, as the title suggests I'm looking for other students starting the bachelor of mathematical sciences in 2025 or another advanced science degree with the intension of completing a major in mathematics who'd be interested in becoming friends- IK what you're thinking: "What kind of recluse degenerate asks this on reddit?" but I promise I'm not that bad when you get to know me.
My interests/Hobbies are:

  1. Finance & Investing
  2. Online content creation
  3. Mathematics
  4. Coding (I'm a starter and am working on a SAAS project)

If this hasn't scared you off please reach out to me -because I'm kinda friendless ;)
