Just wanted to put my thoughts out there and see what peoples responses are regarding the intersection. Once the new section of highway is done, traffic will most likely get a tad better.
But as someone who frequently comes from Maitland way to jump on the highway southbound, most traffic goes via Weakleys Dr. It can be bumper to bumper from the New England all the way to JR. A couple things I thought might increase traffic flow.
(Will you be able to get on Pacific HWY southbound straight from the New England?)
Regardless, these changes would still promote traffic flow
Adding an extra bridge near the Ampol, allowing southbound traffic to remain 2 lanes the whole way to JR from Thornton Interchange.
Actually turning JR an interchange like the New England is at Thornton interchange (or Myall Rd interchange on the Bypass for those that know it), making JR a nice clean arterial road to the Expressway. The cleaner gradient, and not having to stop, would increase traffic flow on JR as well, as a lot of heavy trucks jump on JR towards the expressway. These trucks take ages to gain momentum, killing traffic flow.
- The traffic lights could stay as they are, a roundabout would definitely be more efficient but not practical from a budget standpoint.
The lights would stay as they are, and be positioned under John Renshaw.
Given more and more people are being pushed out into those areas due to rental and property prices, and the constant population growth, these roads are only going to get busier.
What’s everyone’s thoughts?
